Lately, I’ve been thinking about why there are so many hardships in this world—loss, disappointment, danger, weakness, and so many needs.
For He has satisfied the thirsty soul, And the hungry soul He has filled with what is good. Psalm 107:9
All of this got me thinking about Jesus. I mean, he has some very amazing personality traits that I can really only explore and experience during this lifetime. When I get to the Kingdom, I will not need his protectiveness, because there will be nothing to be protected from. I will not need His comfort, because nothing will give me despair. I will never need to be defended, because I will have no opposition or spiritual battles. I will never need to be vindicated, because there will be no injustice. I will never need a strong support, because I will not be familiar with weakness. And I will never need to be filled, because there will be no emptiness.
Wow. That means that all these difficult times on earth are really teachers of Divine character. They are my only chance to grasp, experience, and enjoy these amazing traits in my Lord and His Father. If I didn’t have to go through this broken, fallen, lacking, dangerous world, I would never understand or enjoy this beautiful, rescuing, filling, protecting side of my God. The Kingdom will be so much better and more joyful for knowing what I have come from and what was lacking.
I think for the rest of my life, I will appreciate my longings because this world is my one chance to discover the traits of Divine Beauty that I would otherwise never know.
