School Programs

Whether you’re looking for a one-hour session for students or a day of instruction for teachers, Vonda’s programs always generate excitement for writing. Energetic, interactive, and entertaining, her classes bring a new dimension to writing education.

“Vonda Skelton doesn’t just make writing fun, she brings life to writing and connects writing to life. The students were mesmerized by her and thoroughly enjoyed the short time they spent with her, as did I.”

For 3rd-6th Graders

Writing is Fun! Children’s Writing Workshops—interactive workshops generally lasting 60 minutes (programs can be expanded or shortened as needed).

I love to talk with kids about reading and writing! Through the years, I’ve spoken to over 23,000 students in public and private schools, homeschools, libraries, and bookstores…and I’d love to talk with your kids!

In this high energy, interactive program, children learn the basics of writing a story, how to develop memorable characters, how and where to get great ideas, and how to pack the story with exciting scenes. The class culminates with students creating their own well-rounded character, complete with physical description, talents, backstory, fears, and much more! Your students will be thrilled to head back to class and write their own stories!

Writing is Fun! can be presented in either a 1-hour or 2-hour format and multiple classes can be presented in one day.

Artist-in-Residence Programs–These can be highly-expanded versions of the Writing is Fun! Workshop or I would be happy to create a custom program specific to your needs.

Please contact me to discuss the possibility of having a Writing is Fun! workshop or Artist-in-Residence program in your school, library, or bookstore.

For high school students

For older students and teens, I share my experiences as a working writer and address issues that high schoolers must face and overcome, whether they are writers or not. My personal stories of perseverance, excelling through practice, and applying one’s self will carry into the students’ lives long after the program is over.

For adults/teachers

Teachers often tell me writing is one of their least-favorite classes to teach. Well, it’s one of my favorites! Let me help you with your own writing skills, which will help the students in your classroom.

I have these classes prepared, or would be happy to create a custom class specific to your needs.
