The other day I stopped by my friend Darcy’s house. She had just come from a several mile bike ride in the hot afternoon sun and I sat down on her front porch with her while she took off her shoes. I couldn’t help but feel the relief, watching her strip off her hot, sweaty socks. How well I know that amazing feeling when your feet finally get to breathe after several hours in hot, cramped shoes. Ahhhh. It’s a lovely, decadent feeling!
My kids know from years of experience that any kind of life event where I “feel the relief,” I tend to classify as “a cool glass of water on a hot summer day.” Refreshing.
All this makes me think of the world. It’s a tired, thirsty place. It’s a place that could really benefit from things like Living Water. What is really amazing is that I can actually BE that “glass of water” (or like socks coming off on a hot summer day) in the lives of others! I can be a vessel of the relief and soothing presence of Christ. Check out Proverbs 11:25:
The generous prosper and are satisfied; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed.
Today, think about how you might be a source of refreshment to others!
