Super Mom to the Rescue!

squirrel_1Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 1 Peter 5:8

I love the fiercely protective love of a parent. Sometimes it can be totally, insanely stupid, too. Desperate even. Like the time I felt sorry for my daughter after she made some mistakes on her high school basketball team. Big Mama, donning my "Super Mom to the squirrel_2Rescue" cape, ran down 20 rows of bleachers to sit behind the team bench in order to console her. She had a strange case of mom amnesia for at least two weeks after that. Oops. But hey, for the most part, parents will do anything to protect their kids, including jump in squirrel_3front of a speeding bus if necessary!

I came across this amazing set of pictures recently where this mother squirrel actually takes on a black lab to save her baby. I don't know that I've ever seen this kind of courage for such a small furry friend, but it is inspiring! The squirrel actually wins!

Jesus has this kind of squirrel_4fiercely protective love for you. He took on a big black dog once and sent that big, bad dog home crying with its tail between its legs. Yep, you were spared from being on the lunch menu. You were set free and told to run fast toward home.

And from now on, maybe you'll want to stay a bit closer to daddy.
